B-29 Wreckage
A challenging hike, starting at Glossop Station across through Manor Park, passing up Shepley Street, into open countryside at Mossy Lea, where you will follow the trail up to the start of Doctors Gate (Roman road), you follow the footpath keeping right up to a footbridge at mile 3 (a nice picnic place) continue up the path following the Roman road for a mile (4miles)until up come to a gate, pass through and then bear to the left path. Follow this path as it meanders across the open moorside, through bogs and gradually working towards Higher Shelf, before to reach the trig point the B-29 wreckage can be found. Bear left to the trig point where you can see 360’ with the trig to your left find a path leading towards west, follow to a point of separation, (6 miles) here take the downward path James Thorn, follow to the point where you rejoin Doctors Gate, retrace your steps back to the end on Mossy Lea, turn right up Hope Street, bear left and follow the road round, here you find Distant Hills brewery and restaurant, grab a rest before heading down towards Well Gate, follow the road onto Church Street, continue round the road to the entrance of Manor Park, pass the walls of the old hall and follow this path back to King Edward Road, where you retrace your steps back to Glossop Train Station.
