Nothing Works Like Walking (Walking at Work)
Employees at Bolsover District Council (BDC) will have the chance to join the Physical Activity and Sports Development Team on lunchtime strolls around walks local to the Council Offices at the Arc in Clowne and the Riverside Depot at Doe Lea starting at the beginning of June.
All routes start and finish at the Arc and the Riverside Depot alternately, are between 1½ and 2 miles long and will be led by qualified walk leaders.
Employees based at each venue will have six group walks to take part in and the opportunity to become a qualified walk leader if they feel encouraged enough to organise their own walks.
The Bolsover Boundary Walk (BDC Team and Individual Challenges)
Following on from last year’s remarkably popular 50 4 50 walking challenges, BDC’s Physical Activity and Sports Development Team are organising this year’s team and individual walking challenges for employees, which will follow on from the Nothing Works Like Walking programme.
The challenge for 2025 is to walk the length of the Bolsover District Boundary, which is just shy of 60 miles, initially as a team and then as individual walkers. For all those that complete the challenges there will be the chance to win walk related prizes.
To make the challenge achievable the team event asks 4 team members to walk 15 miles each over 5 weeks and for the individual event you need to walk 60 miles over 10 weeks.
Walkers can trek wherever they like, even whilst on their holidays, distances are recorded and progress plotted on a virtual route and updates circulated weekly to staff to offer inspiration, praise any milestones reached and so they can visualise their whereabouts along the route. Those taking part are encouraged to send in pictures of their rambles and offer comment on how they are finding the experience.
The Team Challenge begins in July and walks into the Individual Challenge beginning in August, meaning that those taking part in all 3 activities can find themselves walking across 4 months of the year without realising!
