Walking groups across North East Derbyshire continue to thrive, offering a fantastic opportunity to boost your physical and mental wellbeing.
With 13 guided walks taking place across the district, each led by our dedicated team of trained Volunteer Walk Leaders, there’s something for everyone—whether you’re looking to improve your fitness, lift your mood, or simply enjoy the outdoors.
Walking offers a wide range of health benefits, including:
- Better sleep
- Improved mood and mental wellbeing
- Support with weight management
- Lower cholesterol
- Increased overall fitness
Many of our walks also include refreshments and social time afterwards, giving participants the chance to connect and continue conversations in a relaxed setting.
We also host regular community litter picks across Clay Cross and Danesmoor, and everyone is welcome to join in. These events are a great way to care for the environment, meet new people, and take pride in your local area.
We work in close partnership with the Chesterfield Litter Picking Team, Clay Cross Social Centre, St Barnabas Community Centre in Danesmoor, and the Street Scene team at North East Derbyshire District Council (NEDDC) to ensure that all participants have access to the necessary equipment and safety kit. Whether you’re a seasoned volunteer or trying it for the first time, your support makes a real difference.
We’re also looking for new volunteers to help lead or support our walks. These roles are flexible and can be tailored to suit individual needs. Full training is provided by Walk Derbyshire, and is open to everyone—no prior experience required. Additional training opportunities are also available in areas such as first aid, mental health support, and dementia awareness.
As a Volunteer Walk Leader, you’ll gain access to Walk Derbyshire resources, explore more of your local area, stay active, and make a meaningful contribution to your community.
